PRESS RELEASE
November 1st, 2011
LONDON, United Kingdom: Verismic®, a Sparxent company, today announced the general availability of Verismic Power Manager 3.2 at the Green IT Expo show, Westminster. The new version adds functionality that enables end users - not just system managers - to control the energy consumption and carbon use of their individual machines. This allows them to see the impact they’re making, providing a more interactive, personalised PC power management experience.
Verismic will be demonstrating Power Manager 3.2 on stand 7 at the Green IT Expo show.
With Verismic Power Manager (VPM) 3.2, customers will now have the additional benefit of being able to offer their employees a free home use license of the standalone agent – which will enable employees to positively impact the environment and reduce their home energy costs.
The results of Verismic’s June 2011 survey of 122 organisations across all sectors of UK business indicated that UK businesses could take better advantage of staff attitudes towards power consumption and energy costs at work. Overall, 49 per cent of respondents worried about energy usage at work and 91 per cent cared how much their employer spent on energy. As a result of these industry findings, the capabilities of the standalone agent have been incorporated into the centralised managed version, however, the system administrator has the ability to switch it off – allowing as much control as desired by the company.
Verismic Power Manager 3.2 new key features include:
- A ‘Standalone’ Power Management agent
Verismic Power Manager 3.2, customers will now have the additional benefit of being able to offer their employees a free home use license of the standalone agent. This can be installed on a single system, such as a home PC or laptop, where there is no centralized management, meaning that individual users can save power, costs and carbon and the savings will be reported back to them directly via a desktop interface systems manager tray.
- Social media share and comparison tools for the user
To encourage wider uptake of Power Management - VPM 3.2 now has the ability to allow users to compare their savings versus their colleagues and post their results to popular social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Ability to target Power Policies based on Hardware and Software Configuration
Policies can now be targeted based on a device’s configuration, which allows more granular and accurate corporate power policies
- Enhanced OS compatibility
VPM 3.2 has been developed to support a wider range of operating systems, including Mac’s Lion OS
- Verismic Agent Deployment Mechanism
Automated agent coverage takes the work out of deploying and maintaining agents throughout your entire endpoint environment. As machines enter your environment or get reimaged Verismic Power Manager will automatically deploy agents, ensuring maximum savings while eliminating administration burden.
Frank Griffiths, Vice President of Software Products at Verismic, commented: ‘We have enabled the end user to be part of the process by empowering them to manage their own power consumption, using enhanced data through our system tray and the standalone client at home.
“Users can now take a very active role in keeping cost and carbon use down however IT managers can still retain the control if they wish.
“Verismic Power Manager 3.2 is a response to our customer’s corporate needs. They are beginning to work with their staff to embed responsibility for power management in their company’s DNA, and this version is a big step towards supporting those goals,” Griffiths concluded.

About Verismic Power Manager
